How to submit your blog to Search Engines

When a new blog is created, it cannot be seen on search engines initially. Without search engines knowing about your blog, there is no chance for it to appear on search engines let alone as a higher-ranking site. Once a blog is ranked on search engines, it can become a source of    traffic for the blog. For search engines to easily find and rank your blog, you need to submit your blog to search engines. Once a blog is submitted to the search engines, it is ranked and you can start receiving organic traffic on your blog. The submission process of a blog is simple as well as free. For submitting your blog, you don’t need to pay to search engines.

What Is Crawling?

If you are new to blogging and don’t know what crawling is, here is a little detail about it. Crawling is the process for the discovery of updated or new content available on search engines. Search engines send out spiders or crawlers which discover new content by links. Content can be in the form of a PDF, a new webpage, a video or an image. Spiders or crawlers discover new content via URLs and add those URLs to their index. If a blog is linked somewhere on another website, chances are that crawlers will follow the link to the blog and index it.

Search Engine Indexing

For a new blog, if it is not appearing in the search engine index, it will not be found when users search for it. Search engines need to be aware of your blog to crawl it and make it part of the index. Search engine index is a massive database of all the content that crawlers have discovered. This content is readily available for searchers. When someone searches for a website or a blog, the URL is fetched from the index to display it.

Why Should You Submit Your Blog To Search Engines?

The question is why you should submit your blog to search engines and what are the benefits linked to doing so. It is not necessary to submit your blog to search engines to make them appear in the search engines but for a new blog, this is the quickest way to be discovered and then get organic traffic on the blog. There are steps that, if you take, can speed up the process of indexing your blog.

Changing Privacy Settings on the Blog

For a search engine to find your blog, your first need to take the following steps:

  1. Log into your blog
  2. Click on settings
  3. In the settings, you will find the option for privacy settings. Click on visible to search engines in the privacy settings.

Submitting Blog to Google

If you are submitting your blog to Google, you should be able to access and edit your blog. This is not absolutely necessary, but it may help later on when you need to add search engine tools. To get a blog indexed it is important to have a sitemap, a robot.txt.file and search engine toolsets.

A correct sitemap is an absolute necessity when you submit your blog to search engines.

XML Sitemap

Biggest benefit of a sitemap is increased crawl ability. A sitemap is a list of all the URLs that you want to be visible publicly. This gives crawlers a map of all your URLs. You can find your XL site map by going to the following link with your blog name:

YOURBLOG.com/sitemap.xml

Once you have found your sitemap you can move on to submitting this sitemap to the Google Search Console.

Google Search Console

The best SEO tool available in the market is Google Search Console. Google requires you to set up Search Console and verifying website ownership before you can submit your blog to Google.

Once the sitemap is found, open your Google Search Console and in the index, click on sitemaps. Add your sitemap URL here and click on submit. For blogs that have multiple sitemaps, just repeat the process, and add all the URLs. And this is it.

Search for your blog URL on Google to see if it has been effectively submitted and indexed. Your blog will show up in Google results if Google has crawled and indexed it. Copying a paragraph or a few lines from your blog with quotation marks on Google search will also show your page, if it has been indexed.

Submitting Blog to Yahoo

If you are looking to submit your site to Yahoo in particular, then it is easy. To submit your blog to Yahoo, you need to submit it to Bing. Yes, exactly that. Once a blog is submitted to Bing it is submitted to Yahoo too. So, what you need to learn is how to submit your blog to Bing.

Submitting Blog to Bing

For submitting a blog to Bing, you will need Bing Webmaster Tools. Set it up for your blog. Following the same steps that you take for Google Search Console; you will first need a sitemap of your blog. Then open up the Bing Webmaster Tools and submit sitemaps. Click on sitemaps from the menu and add your sitemap URL here and submit. In case of more than one site map, add each sitemap URL and click on submit until you list them all.

With this done, your blog will not only be submitted on Bing, it will be submitted to Yahoo automatically too. So, there is no need or requirement to submit your blog to Yahoo separately.

Don’t Pay For Submission Services

Why pay for something that can be done freely. Submitting your blog on Google, Yahoo and Bing is free of cost and does not require too much technical information. A few simple steps will help you submit your blog on search engines. Do not pay for a submission service since you can do this for free.
